Just digged into that jewel. I think its a good example how body damage can be handled.

Summary:


  • Every body consists of limbs: 2 arms, 2 legs, stomach, chest and head.

  • Every limb has its own amount of hp.

  • If the limb is at 0hp, its broken. Any additional damage to a broken limb might kill the player. Broken vital parts kill instantly. Broken limbs will cause "pain" debuff.

  • If a player has "pain", he will makes noises and grunts and will be moaning in pain.

  • Every broken limb will add additional "debuffs" to the player. E.g. broken arms will make weapon movement, reloads slower. Broken legs makes the play unable to run or to jump. Broken Stomach makes them loose hydration quickly. etc.

  • Depending on the caliber which hits you, limbs have a chance to receive several debuffs, even if it still has hp: Fractured: Decreased speed/movement; Bloodloss: DoT; Pain: Blurred vision; Confusion: Loss of hearing, swindle.

  • As long as a limb is not broken/dead, every effect can be healed with the right item/combination of items. (Bandages: remove Bloodloss; Splints: Remove fractures; Medipacks: Heal limb hp; Water: rehydrates.; Painkillers: Remove Pain; etc.)


=> It sounds complicated but is implemented in a smart and very intuitive way.

=> You will usually not stack up all debuffs at once and due to clever multiusage heal items you can heal wounds without a hazzle. (Takes a few seconds though).

=> You can injure enemies very specifically. Don't want them to be able to run away without killing them? -> A high caliber, armor piercing bullet to the legs usually creates a fracture and will cripple them.

=> Players which are equipped with the right items to treat the wounds will generally be able to keep injured players alive. Without proper treatment, death often is imminent.

What do you guys think? Anybody else tried EFT?

I read up a bit on what i should be expecting with purchasing the game and have watched videos on it but now I wanted to ask the community a few questions.

I am currently running a 1440p monitor with an FX 8150/nitro fury/16gb ram combo. How much of a compromise will I have to make on the graphics setting to maintain a 60fps frame rate? I am sure I will be fine with dips when playing so I am not too concerned about this question. My main question is just how is the gameplay?

How vast/diverse/explorable is the universe? I am looking for a space sim that is deep and and universe that encourages people to actually get out there and explore. Are there millions of unique worlds to find and land on and explore?

This leads me to my next question. I don't mind the grind but if I am trying to farm resources to upgrade and refuel then my concern lies with how intuitive the controls, UI, and what not everything is.

What is the one big thing you want out of the AI in Star Citizen?

We've heard a lot about subsumption and we know that some of it will be in 3.0.

So I wanted to ask the community what one thing you want to see out of AI in Star Citizen.

When I say AI, I am referring to the behavior of any and all NPCs, be it ship combat, day-night cycles, hirelings, or anything else.

AI is a huge area in this game, so Im sure you can think of some things you want.

If you look at the 3.0 starmap, they are still using Kilometers for distance measurements, which, when you have a number in the millions is not very helpful in gauging distance. It's essentially just an unreadable mess of a number, functionally incomparable with other garbled messes of a number.

When it comes time to worry about fuel management, we are going to have to compare these unreadable messes of numbers with others, and that will not be fun.

AUs and fractions of AUs should be used for long distances. Hell, even Light Minutes would be far more useful. Does CIG simply not know about these units?

Proposal for interesting navigation and exploration game play implied by the 3.0 patch notes

Caveat: this is a combination of speculative theorycrafting and proposal of how things could be done, based on a few sentences of notes on a test phase of an alpha product- please bear this in mind when replying – I am aware this is not fact of how current state of game or necessarily where the design is going

Based on this section from the 3.0 patch notes:

First order assumptions:

  • Gravity wells are a key aspect of Quantum Drive function. Essentially they act as a ‘pull’ point for the drive. (this is not so much an assumption as a potential design decision suggested by the patch notes that would allow the remainder of my proposal).
  • Exploration and higher quality components might be able to detect and lock onto large things at longer ranges.
  • Exploration and efficiency optimized sensors and drives, and the better the quality of them, may be better at filtering out the gravitational influence of large objects overwhelming smaller objects, allowing them to resolve and navigate to smaller objects at longer ranges
  • Instead of a gravity well, quantum drives may alternately be able to lock onto nav beacons (within their range) provided the beacon is set to public or if the ship has the security transponder settings for a private beacon (e.g. org specific or some coded data that can be sold/shared). Otherwise, space beacons would not be particularly valuable if your drive cannot effect travel to that position.
  • I am assuming that even though CIG is adding planetary orbits, due to the speed of travel in QT navigation is done in straight-line paths instead of something like Kerbal where you are plotting orbital paths based on things like delta-V. Where you are going isn't going to move much (in solar system scale terms) in the dozen minutes of travel.
  • In order for some of these proposed ideas to hold, navigators will not be able to set arbitrary QT destination locations – you always have to navigate toward a gravity source or beacon signal, but can set the system to end drive operation at a specific point somewhere along that vector prior to reaching the signal you are navigating toward. (again I acknowledge this is a contrivance, but is a major piece of allowing the more interesting navigation gameplay I am going to outline below)

A quick rough video focusing heavily on the Cutlass as many angles as I could within shortest of time possible so we all remember the Cutlass as we know it before 3.0 A rough and tumble ship that cannot sustain dogfights but mean as a dog. I added a music by John Barry (The Persuaders) a TV show from 70's

All together, I tried to bring a feel of unity and piracy, fragility and strength so we all remember the Cutlass for what it was. A ship that brought joy, tears, frustrations, open friendships, and exerted a mean rebellious character.

A ship with the soul of a true Black Flag.
