Playtest Today at 2000 UTC

Hi everyone!

We've been given very specific instructions for very specific playtests today... please follow the instructions!

This test will be on all regions and start promptly at 2000 UTC.

2000 UTC (10 minute test): All the Players, No Ships: Log in but do NOT spawn ships yet! Come up to the top of Port Olisar pads. 2010 UTC (10 minute test): Big Ships Near Port Olisar Test: Head back to the ASOP terminal inside and spawn large ships. Don't leave; just hang out near Port Olisar. 2020 UTC (20 minute test): Traversal Test: Spawn another ship of any size, then leave Port Olisar area to various points in the system, including landing on moons. 2100 UTC (30+ minute test): Mission Test: Check out https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spec ... y-missions for more information.

Test Request 3.0.0q - First Pass: Delivery Missions

Hello everyone!

We are going to take a first pass on some of the missions with a simple weekend test request and can or can not complete survey. Similar format as before and as always, we appreciate your time!

Test instructions:

Spawn a Freelancer Take off Open the contract (missions) manager app and navigate to the "offers" tab. Take any mission available under the "Delivery" field Attempt to complete the mission, start to finish. Let us know if you were able here: If you were unable to complete the request, scan the replies to this post and up-vote the reason you were not able to complete the test. If you don't see your issue, post a reply with why you were unable. Please only reply if you were unable to complete the test.

Edited for Freelancer due to issues with the Cutlass

Additional info given to me: Testers are reporting collision issues, 100001 error issues, limited fuel issues, ship spawning issues, cargo box disappearance and low mission payouts.

If one has a base in UEE space, does anyone know what will trigger the defense systems (or NPC law enforcement)? Does it have to be an actual attack on the structure of the base, or does just trespassing on our plots of land set things off?

Also, when are these self owned plots and bases actually coming into gameplay? 3.1, 3.2?? I know it’s somewhere and I should look it up, but in my defense I have a three-year-old and one month all. I barely have enough time to play the game let alone research on here. :)

I kinda liked the old method of showing the graph with the number of blockers and bugs, it was easy for me to follow. The new method is more detailed but I can't tell if things have gone forward or backwards because things are spread out on the page and there's no history of what that feature was at previously. Am I missing something?

I find myself wondering what the best and most efficient use of my money is; as it relates to backing the project and getting the most value from my investment.

I have been following the SC and SQ42 development for quite some time and I see a lot of new and old players asking similar questions. Such as "What is the best ship for X role?", "What is the best 'jack of all trades' ship?", "Should I upgrade (insert ship name here) to (insert ship name here)?" and "What should I buy?".

It would be useful for the community to have an up to date list of theoretical best ships at varying price ranges and roles. For example:

$25: (Name of Ship)

$50: (Name of Ship)

$100: (Name of Ship)

etc...

And

Multi-Purpose: (Name of Ship)

Fighter: (Name of Ship)

Medical: (Name of Ship)

...and so on and so forth.

A lot of the information in this list would constitute of the recently updated ship matrix, the announced game play mechanics, the prospective implications of certain ships on game play, the announcement of new ships and land vehicles, and finally and more conclusively, the general consensus from the community as to what is most useful ship(s) in the current iteration of the game.

This list would also include Game Packages and other Extras "things" that are notable and worthwhile purchases in the RSI store.

An example of the community already unofficially doing this is when we used to recommend the Avenger Titan to those who wanted the best all-purpose ship but then, as development progressed, began recommending the Cutlass Black instead.

Note: I would have already made this list myself but I am clueless in regards to ship stats and theory-crafting. For example, I am aware that the Cutlass Black is the best multi-purpose ship but do not understand the reasons for it (hence the desire for this list).

This list could then be stickied to the subreddit for future players who are curious about this information to have an easy access to it. It would also allow for debate and discussion around the power-level/viability of each ship. It would more clearly paint a picture of how balancing is progressing as the game is being developed.

First thought was the performance bit mark fixed on the latest bug smashes, but that appeared to be more related to not updating clients when ships were far far away.

These 60 player test have been with all the players being in one spot. Basically worst case scenario for a server. The vast majority of the time players will be spread out all over the solar system and not in the same place.

So I wonder what they fixed that allows for everyone to be in the same location and still have decent frame rates (20-30)

I hope the cap on quantum slave jumping is high. I hope to see two large fleets suddenly appear and battle BSG style. I just hope servers don’t die when two large groups suddenly appear and then battle. I’m aware of the recent test but those were small ships with stationary objects. A large battle with more objects may be a different story.

I just wanted to take the time to really thank the Devs who put in a lot of work and transparency with this project. After monitoring the destruction of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 Reddit today, it really strengthens my opinion that crowdfunding is the way of the future for videogaming and honestly, realistically, the only way we will get feature complete and innovative products into our hands.

As of this post, EA has accrued the most down-voted comment in Reddit history with over 65k down-votes. So, for all the negativity lately with the delay of 3.0, it really pales in comparison to the struggles of the traditional video-game industry; which are parent companies needing to make a quarterly deadline and rushing out games behind paywalls of character unlocks. That is not how we ever experience anything new or how the industry progresses.

Star Citizen is going to set the new standard of video-gaming I believe, and in many ways already has.
