Suggestion for Explorer Hulls/Equipment

As the whole use of quantum drive for exploration - where you will not have an existing destination navigation beacon to jump to - is still undecided (or at least we are not aware of CIG internal potential solutions yet), I figured I'd toss out an idea on how it could be done.

It seems a good way to provide "purpose" to explorer type hulls would be if they are the most efficient in using jump components that can perform jumps without an existing nav beacon at the destination. In other words, they would be the only ships able to trigger a jump to an undefined destination. If the components that allowed this were significantly draining on cooling/power and were most efficiently used in an explorer ship type of hull (ship AI) then it would create a definite use for these ship types in going out and dropping nav beacons for others to follow.

I know many seem to not believe every hull CIG makes will have a definite strength of purpose - but I'm not one of them. I think every ship hull they make will have an in game primary unique purpose - even if that purpose is general flexibility.

Anyway, I was bored, and this subject interests me. Tradition dictates some will want to talk about it.

And of course others will just want to downvote, it being me after all posting the OP -_-

But, as I'm here to be entertained...

So i have a 1080, 16gigs of ram and a intel i5 6600k at 3.5, but i use the game on an harddisk. I some times have 20 fps but quite often expirience frame drops ( with graphics on verry low). Is there a big or at least some improvement with an ssd?

Landing pads exist now mostly for roll-play purposes, "I landed on a landing pad! Cool!" but otherwise not necessary?

  • -One is just as likely to damage his craft via a 'hard landing' when landing on a pad as they are on nearby terrain.
  • -After landing/parking, the landing pad offers no more (or less) security/protection for ones craft (from collision, attack or theft) than having simply landed on nearby terrain.
  • -What's the risk or penalty to being denied use of a landing pad? None that I know of. No material benefit, either.


Auto-Landing & Pad Logic Auto Pad-Landing is self-explanatory. Pad logic takes this further, guaranteed to auto land the ship accurately & safely every time while also maximizing pad space. Mission spots are heavy traffic and wasting a whole pad for a single ship can be a total waste.... so with smart "pad logic" the AI could jigsaw ships onto any sized pad for maximum efficiency.
