Hey Citizens,

I'm new to the game and I've been looking around various posts filtered for the last six months but I haven't seen a straight answer for this specific question. What are the best fighters for PVE? Additionally, does ship even matter much if you upgrade starter ships?

Ultimately, I want to make some good aUEC and find that I enjoy the fighting aspect of the game more than the mining/delivery/trading options.

I appreciate any input!

With 3.1 incoming, what are your thoughts on Database Wipe?

IMO, there needs to be a full and complete wipe. I believe way too many inconsistencies have occurred to many random people, with all bugs not being equal.

The UEC loopholes/bugs have created more 100000+ beacons of people giving away free UEC more than ever lately. Duped ships, having to reset accnt regularly. This is why I feel a full wipe is needed, so they can start to see which bugs are still here.

As opposed to not wiping, and we launch 3.1 with a bunch of weird crap from last patch rolling over, dupe ships, components missing, UEC bugs for some people.

OK so I am a couple of hours into Star Citizen and after some aggravation getting my HOTAS bound to my liking (although the throttle is still backwards despite me ticking and unticking all the inversion boxes) and working out how to fly (still not entirely sure what the speed limiter does/is used for) and I have managed to successfully leave Microtech, plot a course to ArcCorp and arrive at the landing pad. Sadly, just as I was approaching what I assumed was the right landing pad (the one with the spanner icon, right?) the game screeched at me that I was approaching a restricted area and in a panic, I incorrectly throttle up rather than down and twisted the stick too violently, exploding in a fiery death. Still, this counts as progress to me. Anyway, some thoughts, in no particular order:

  • The space stations and docking areas all scratch that itch that Elite misses. Just the very mundane act of being able to walk around one's ship or the space station one is docked at adds a massive degree of verisimilitude that Elite lacks.
  • The whole keybinding HOTAS experience seems to me to be a little counterintuitive. It would be nice to have a button to invert the controls next to the keybinding rather than on a separate page so you don't have to flick backwards and forwards. Despite ticking and unticking all the inversion settings for throttle, my HOTAS throttle is still reversed which is taking a little getting used to.
  • Navigation and the starmap is a bit of a pain. I found the ground points of interest labels on ArcCorp kept appearing and disappearing when viewing the starmap. I needed to keep zooming out an in to get them to reappear. It wasn't clear which POI I needed to target to land at. Some helpful soul in chat told me it was Area 18 but I wouldn't have known that otherwise.
  • Being able to engage quantum drive when a POI is obscured and on the other side of the planet is fantastic. I like the way it automatically steers you around the planet's curvature.
  • I have to say, other than people standing on chairs, I haven't seen that many bugs so far. Then again, I am only a couple of hours in.
  • I think the fuel consumption and/or travel times needs a bit of tweaking. My ship appears to have a fuel thimble rather than a tank. Likewise, spending time watching numbers tick down in quantum drive is a little tedious but I appreciate it does allow for a sense of scale.
  • If CIG can crack giving the space stations and what-not just a little more air of 'real life' about them, they will be superb. The NPCs seem just a touch wooden and lifeless; more like props or furniture rather than real people going about their business.
  • I understand why there isn't right now but upon release day, it would be good if there were some proper hand-holding tutorials to guide people through flight, combat, FPS etc etc. The tooltips are all well and good but they aren't always present and do miss some key stuff.
  • Again, I am sure they are looking into it but FPS absolutely tanks when flying over ArcCorp. The stations and what not aren't so bad; I get relatively good rates there and absolutely fine in space.


Anyway, just some random thoughts. I'm sure I'll get laughed at but the next goal is to take off, fly somewhere and land successfully. Then I can think about taking some contracts possibly and see a little more of the system.
