Seriously. No dev likes to cut features. Every dev has to, in order to turn a collection of interesting ideas into a playable game that eventually launches.

As far as I can tell, CIG has never done this - never said "hey, feature X is going to absorb way more dev time and money than reasonable given the payoff, so we're going to cut it and reprioritize things with a better ROI."

This, I have to imagine, is a huge part of why 8 years after I first backed this game, we appear to be making barely any progress towards the 100-star-system universe with interesting missions we were sold, let alone Squadron 32, let alone core features like mining or ship-to-ship boarding.

Just... start cutting features that don't work. You can always go back to them some day! And every dev ever has to do it, except devs with no publishers and (for the moment) seemingly unlimited money.

Our goal is entirely to be a security service in the game, I already have a few other Orgs who pay for security, Basically we are here to carry out missions and jobs for other Orgs at a price. And to help those orgs who may not be interested in combat. Also ships must be supplied on your own, but don't worry! We have a hammerhead if its ever good lol.

Yes we are very new, not going to hide that, but hopefully this takes off and we have a great time together!!

A lot of fans criticized Cloud Imperium these past few days for a complete lack of communication. After all, the team had promised to launch the game’s closed beta in Q3 2020. And today, Cloud Imperium issued an official statement about the progress of Squadron 42 and its upcoming roadmap.

Let’s start with the obvious, the beta phase for Squadron 42 won’t be happening anytime soon. In December 2018, Cloud Imperium claimed that an alpha phase for Squadron 42 would begin in early 2020. Then, in August 2019, the team delayed the beta phase by 12 weeks. Since we haven’t even seen an alpha phase for Squadron 42, it’s safe to assume that the beta phase has been – unofficially – delayed, again.

It’s also worth noting that since December 2019, the team has not released any new materials for Squadron 42. In December 2019 we got a cinematic teaser trailer. However, and since then, we haven’t seen any new tech videos, gameplay teasers, or new screenshots.

What’s even funnier here is that since March 2020, the team has been working on a new roadmap that it cannot share yet. Let this sink in; the studio has been working on a roadmap – which is still unfinished – for four months. I mean, this gets a bit ridiculous at this point.

But anyway, Cloud Imperium claims that this new roadmap will give its fans better visibility into what teams are working on, share the progress of more teams, and go so far as to indicate the size of the projects for its tech, features, and content teams. This new roadmap will drastically change how you follow the development progress for both Squadron 42 and Star Citizen. The new roadmap will also focus more on breaking out teams and features so you can interactively see what is being worked on across all teams, as opposed to what features will make X release.

Lastly, Cloud Imperium plans to deliver the following communications in the immediate future:

  • Give an explanation of the goals of the new Roadmap and what to expect from it
  • Show a rough mockup of the proposed new Roadmap
  • Share a work in progress version of the Roadmap for at least one of its core teams
  • And then finally transition to this new Roadmap

I was going over the MFDs while in QT and I saw missiles. So I searched around the ship wondering where these would even go.

On deck 2, while approaching the medbay from the bridge, look to your right. That wall/section of the ship to the outside of the hull seems available.

One of the main problems with VR right now is the lack of games and player base. Half life alyx was praised for providing quality VR content and provided a lot of people a reason to buy VR, in fact since the plagues hit, our current closest analogue to the ‘ready player one’ world, has doubled in player base (VRC). VR headsets were sold out for some months earlier this year and are still in high demand from the mass player increase.

This seems like a good opportunity for star citizen to capitalize on, a large amount of VR users with few options for games. VRChat is the only real current digital society, and understandably some may find it unappealing. Star citizen with (body tracking) VR would rival VRC as a more serious alternative to the chaotic mess VRC can be. VRC is the only current thing I could call a digital society, there aren’t many competent competitors as far as I’m aware. Star citizen could fill a niche or just provide another game for those with VR. Tbh I have VR and there’s not a lot of good multiplayer options besides VR chat, not that VRChat isn’t amazing.

If people complain there’s not much to do in this game, VR makes just existing in that space a lot. All people do in VRChat is idle and talk. Adding VR would turn it into more of a social game, the devs would get to design a lot of places for people to just idle in (like you find in VRC). Good for filling up cities and sidewalks. And besides, the whole point of this game is to be the most immersive experience, yet its a desktop game in the age of VR.
