Since LEGO first bought the Star Wars license, fans have had the opportunity to build a vast array of vehicles and play sets, working from the specific instructions to follow the builds designed by LEGO's master engineers.

Now, with the LEGO Star Wars Ideas Book, that’s all about to change, as fans are encouraged to think outside of the box and construct their own creations.

When you're so used to following defined directions, the difficult part is knowing where to start, but the authors have you covered, asking you "What Will You Do Today?" and offering numerous suggestions based on things such as how many bricks you have, how much time and whether you're building alone or with friends.

Rethink, Rebuild, Recycle focuses on Mini Makes, Radical Rebuilds and Pick Your Bricks, while Build Basics provides advice and guidance such as Learn the Language, Let's Get Technical and Scale It Up - or Down! The final introductory pages encourage you to Use Your Imagination, whether that is to Be Star Wars Inspired, to Think Ahead or to Use What You Have.

The rest of the book is broken into four sections; Recreate, Expand, Challenge and Use It!

The first of these looks at reliving your favourite Star Wars moments, and covers topics such as building a bigger figure, making your own Loth-Cat or creating a collapsible Pit Droid!

Enlarging the Star Wars galaxy is the goal of the Expand section and includes some fun ideas, starting with forming a matching band, giving a minifigure a lift and for Rebels' fans, there's guidance on how to Sabine-ify a ship!

The Challenge section is designed for when you want to compete for fun with friends and family and features such things as Race to the top of Mustafar, Design a set of Star Wars dominos and Navigate the Kamino Maze!

The final section, Use It!, gives suggestions for building treasures to keep or gifts to give, such as a Gamorrean Guard piggy bank, a Jango Fett pen holder, making a Star Wars movie set or centerpieces that show your allegiance!

The main thing to note from the LEGO Star Wars Ideas Book is that you are on your own when it comes to how you build the suggestions throughout the book, but the beauty of that is there is no right or wrong way of doing things!

Throughout the book are numerous Builder's Tips and Special Bricks are highlighted where applicable, along with the now customary humorous speech bubbles! There are also a handful of Radical Rebuilds which show the likes of Obi-Wan's Jedi Interceptor and 2015's Millennium Falcon being used to create something equally spectacular, with each including a Data File that lists the set number, launch date and piece count.

The book closes out with solutions to the contests in the Challenge section and a chance to meet the builders. Step forward Alice Finch, Rhys Knight, Tim Goddard, Rod Gillies, Barney Main and Kevin Hall!

The LEGO Star Wars Ideas Book by Hannah Dolan, Elizabeth Dowsett and Simon Hugo is priced $24.99 in the U.S. and $31.99 in Canada.

As always, a big thanks to DK Canada, whose Star Wars books you can check out at here. For all of your monthly roundup of Star Wars publishing news, commentary, and discussion on the latest releases in the realm of novels, comics, and magazines, don't forget to listen to Jedi Journals.
